Sophie Bowen is an artist based in Hampshire, UK working with natural dyes, drawing and hand embroidery. She studied BA Drawing at Falmouth University followed by completing a Masters in Textiles at Bath Spa University.  

Sophie’s work is a contemplation on nature, observing its seasonal shifts, patterns of regrowth and irregularity and temporariness. This is intertwined with a process-led practice that embraces slowness and allows elements of the creative process to unfold organically, facilitating a thinking-through-making approach.

Drawing is at the heart of Sophie’s creative practice. She uses mark-making as an intuitive and contemplative tool to create a sense of movement and flow. Marks made initially with brush and ink are translated through a variety of textile processes.  

Sophie runs workshops sharing her processes in natural dyeing, drawing and hand embroidery at New Brewery Arts and West Dean College.
